I haven’t had a rant for a while, so here one goes.
Not too long ago, Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain met with the Dalai Lama in Aspen Colorado for a press conference, urging the Chinese government to release Tibetan political prisoners.
Suddenly, everyone is saying how the Dalai Lama endorsed McCain. WHAT?!
First off, let me write the Dalai Lama’s side of the story: the Dalai Lama praised McCain for his concern, but he emphasized he wasn’t endorsing McCain’s presidential bid. The Dalai Lama is seeking support from world leaders for upcoming talks with China once the Olympics are over.
So how do people like Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity get off saying that the Dalai Lama endorsed McCain. He said it wasn’t one!
Also, let me detail the differences between John McCain and the Dalai Lama’s positions.
The Dalai Lama: Preaches nonviolence, is a simple, poor, Buddhist monk, supports the Marxist economic policy because it is one of “morals…capitalism is one of greed,” and believes we should protect our environment.
John McCain: Believes we should continue fighting in Iraq until the war is won (or we everyone just dies), received $13 million in one financial quarter, is against socialized medicine, and against welfare, etc., and supports off-shore oil drilling, ethanol, and drilling in ANWAR.
So how do these two line up. If anything, the only time they met up was on freeing political prisoners from Tibet. So stop saying that the Dalai Lama supports John McCain!
