This inland delta is located in Botswana, where the Okovango River meets the Kalahari Desert. This merging of two worlds creates a desert oasis that always packs in animals from miles around. The flooded plains are the size of Switzerland. Here, the bird population is second to none.
You can easily find elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebra, and hippopotami. As you walk, wade, or boat throughout the are, you are overwhelmed by a multitude of sounds, colors, and smells. The Moremi Wildlife reserve provides shelter for many animals and is amongst the most scenic places in all of southern Africa.
The surrounding savanna is also a great place to view the native wildlife, including, but definitely not limited to elephants, wild dogs, lions, rhinos, leopards, cheetahs, zebras and wildebeast.
Tours of up to 12 people can cost up to $500 per person. The best time to travel here is from April to mid-October to see the vast wildlife. This is a great seasonal experience for any wildlife or travel buff.
