Since his first appearance in Beeton’s Christmas Annual in 1887, Sherlock Holmes has one been one of the most beloved fictional characters ever created. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created a masterpiece.

The Complete Novels and Stories includes the early novel A Study in Scarlet, which introduced the eccentric genius of Sherlock Holmes to the world. This baffling murder mystery also brought Holmes together with Dr. John Watson. Also included are Holmes’s feats of extraordinary detection and logic in such famous cases as the chilling “ The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” the baffling riddle of “The Musgrave Ritual,” and the ingeniously plotted “The Five Orange Pips.” All of these tales bring Victorian England to life with hansom cabs, fogs, and the famous lodgings at 221B Baker Street, where Sherlock Holmes earned his undisputed reputation as the greatest fictional detective of all time.
Over the last few days I have been devouring these novels and stories. To me, they are like potato chips: impossible to read one at a time. 5/5 stars.

I have loved these stories since I was just a kid. Sometime in the 80’s, I think it was, the TV channel from Arizona State University aired a whole series of films made from them and my wife then fell in love with the series too.

My favorite TV Holmes is without a doubt Jeremy Brett.

I have read the books several times and seen most of the movie versions. The Speckled Band is the creepiest snake story ever! I do love a good mystery. I just finished watching the latest episode of Foyle’s War on Masterpiece Theater…another great British whodunnit.

The Speckled Band was Doyle’s favorite. It is a very cryptic, dark mystery.
